TAU Sponge Weekend featured in Alumni Newsletter
The following recap was featured in the latest Binghamton University Alumni “Gatherings” Newsletter:
“During the weekend of June 12-15, TAU alumni participated in a weekend celebration honoring the Sponge, culminating with the 7th annual Golf Challenge at Hamlet Wind Watch Golf Club in Hauppauge, N.Y. The weekend began with a raucous dinner on Friday, continued with the main event on Saturday night (attended by more than 100 brothers and guests), followed by a “Sponge-in-the-Park” picnic Sunday, which led into Monday’s golf outing.
About 100 TAU alumni, active brothers and guests attended the golf outing and dinner reception. Larry Hollander ‘78 won the event and took home the TAU Bowl of Sportsmanship (gross score 85 / net score 74). Michael Blechman ‘89 (gross 104 / net 75) was the net runner-up, and Craig Sirota ‘91 rounded out the net winners with a 3rd place finish. The low gross score of the day (88) was accomplished by Sanjay Malhotra ‘85. The Team Net trophy went to the foursome of David Ramos ‘87, Michael Schwartz ‘88, Brian Schechter ‘87 and Michael Kufeld ‘87. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Martin Friedman ‘75 and John O’Brien; Malhotra, past TAU alumni coordinator, had the longest drive.
